Go off the beaten track on a horseback-riding tour through the mountains of the Santiago area. With an expert guide, you’ll follow local ‘arrieros’ (cowboys) across streams and along scenic terrain. Beginners rest assured: these small but sturdy Criollo horses -- known for their stamina -- will put anyone at ease. Don your chaps and cap for a rugged ride!

After your guide picks you up from your Santiago hotel, relax on the 30-minute drive into the rugged mountain range (known locally as the ‘cordillera’). When you arrive, put on your chaps and mount your Criollo – a stout and hardy, long-distance horse breed known for its stamina in mountainous terrain. You’ll get a brief safety training and some riding instruction, but no prior experience is required to ride one!

When you’re ready, follow a local cowboy who guides you onto the trail for a 3-hour ride on horseback. Take in the magnificent scenery as you scale the mountain paths, and cross some streams along the way.

Admire the breathtaking panoramas of Chile’s gorgeous natural surroundings as you learn about the horses, abundant bird life, and native flora and fauna from your arriero guide. There’s plenty of time to stop for great photo opportunities during your ride.

Afterward, stop to visit an authentic arriero ranch. You’ll be welcomed by his family to enjoy a cup of coffee or try mate – a traditional South American drink typically sipped from a gourd through a metal straw. While you’re there, enjoy a picnic lunch including locally baked bread, seasonal fruits, cheeses, cookies and more!

Your horseback-riding tour ends with return transport to your hotel.

Tour Options:
In the summer months, evening and night rides are also available. Admire the views of Santiago during the sunset tour.

The W name comes from the formation of a perfect W when joining the trails that access to the 3 highlights in the Circuit: Base Torres, French Valley and Grey Glacier.

Make your ascent to the base of Torres del Paine with its monumental peaks towering over glacier lakes and a rocky moraine. Trek through the stunning French Valley to reach Grey Lake, with spectacular views of the Grey Glacier. Sleep in ‘Refugios’ or campsites amongst superb mountain sceneries, and absorb the peaceful vibe of this pristine national park with vibrant flowers and crisp mountain air.

Day 1: Transport from Puerto Natales to Torres del Paine National Park (Regular Bus) (D)

Begin your exciting 5-day independent trekking adventure to Torres del Paine National Park by departing Puerto Natales to Torres del Paine National Park (Laguna Amarga Main Entrance). Have a good night's sleep before starting your trek the next day.

Day 2: Trekking to "The Base of Torres del Paine"  (7-8 hours; 13km; Difficult) (B/L/D)

The first hour and a half of the hike is steep with fantastic views of lake Nordenskjöld and the hanging glacier on Almirante Nieto Mountain (2670 meters). You will then reach Refugio El Chileno where you can drop off your backpack as you will be coming back here for the night. Walk during 1 hour through an ancient Lenga forest until you reach the base of “The Moraine”.

Day 3: Trekking from El Chileno to Los Cuernos  (4-5 hours; 11km; Medium) (B/L/D)

Again, we recommend starting off at 9:00 am today. After hiking for about 30 minutes, you will see the sign to take the "shortcut" that leads to Refugio Los Cuernos and follow this path. After about 4 to 5 hours of hiking today, you will get to the Base of Los Cuernos where the Refugio Los Cuernos is located. This Refugio is considered by many as one of the most charming sites in the whole park; a perfect spot to rest up and recover before your next day's challenging trek: “The French Valley”

Day 4: Trekking to The French Valley  (10–12 hours; 25.3km; Difficult) (B/L/D)

Get ready for a long day of scenic ups and downs. Hike for 2 hours along a rolling trail until "Campamento Italiano", with picturesque views of Nordenskjöld Lake. From here, the ascent goes for about one hour and a half until the French Glacier lookout, from where you will be able to see its hanging glacier and possibly some small avalanches. You will return back to Campamento Italiano along the same path, and then go until the Pehoe sector, with wonderful views of Lake Pehoe and Paine Grande.

Day 5: Trekking to Grey Glacier  (8-9 hours; 22km; Medium) & Return to Puerto Natales (B/L)

You may choose to leave your big backpack in the storage room at Refugio Paine Grande as you will be passing by here again today. We recommend you to start off at 9:00 am, following the trail that goes through the western side of the Paine Massif, with spectacular views of the mountains and the famous Grey Glacier in the distance. After one hour and a half of walking, you will reach the first lookout point, and after another 2 hours you will get to the main lookout right in front of the glacier. You will return to Refugio Paine Grande along the same path. Be ready at 18:00 pm to take the Catamaran that crosses Pehoe Lake until the Pudeto sector, where your bus will be waiting for you to take you back to Puerto Natales (arrival time at Puerto Natales bus station around 22:00 pm).

Depart San Pedro de Atacama at 7:30 am by minibus for an exciting 3-day excursion. Cross into Bolivia, passing by the Chile and Bolivia immigration offices. Once on the Bolivian side, at 4400m above sea level, we change vehicles to a 4WD Jeep with a maximum capacity of 6 people. We start off in the Bolivian high plains, visiting places like the Green Lagoon (toxic copper water) and Laguna Blanca, located at the foot of the big Licancabur volcano at 6000m. Continue on to Dali Desert, where Salvador Dali found his inspiration from boulders sprinkled in the middle of the desert. There you can admire surrealistic landscapes, thermal water pools, the Sol de Mañana geysers –intermittent springs coming up at a 100º C. Walk carefully next to fumaroles and steaming craters filled with boiling pots of mud at 150-200 Cº. The journey ends up at Laguna Colorada, an intense red-colored lake which acts as the main nesting center for thousands of flamingos of 3 different species.

Day 2: Siloli Desert - Chiguana Salt Flat  (B/L/D)

Have an early breakfast and depart around 8:00 am this morning. Pass by the Siloli Desert at 4,550 meters (the highest and driest in the world) where there are a set of rock formations as a result of wind erosion. Take a photo next to a huge lava rock formation in the shape of a tree. Continue on to high plain lagoons also known as colored lagoons; Laguna Honda, Chiarcota and Cañapa. Then we make our way to Chiguana salt flat, on the south side of Uyuni salt flat and surrounded by volcanoes. The night is spent at the Salt Hotel (a hotel made of salt), in double or triple rooms.

Day 3: Uyuni Salt Flats & Night bus to La Paz  (B/L)

Depart at 8:00 am and cruise along the vast white expanse of salt today. Visit Inca Wasy (Fish Island), located in the middle of the salt flat, with beautiful cactus and rock formations made of petrified coral. Take time to organize your group for fun perspective and proportion-distorted photos on the blinding white surface of the salt flats. Pass by piles of salt at the small village of Colchani, a salt miners workshops next to the salt flats. Arrive in the town of Uyuni around 3:00 pm where your tour comes to an end. Grab something to eat for dinner, make your own way to the Uyuni bus station and hop on your night bus for your overnight journey to La Paz.

Day 4: Arrival in La Paz
