Day 1: Morado Natural Monument & Hot Springs

Cajon del Maipo is the backyard of Santiago, a narrow valley sourranded by big mountains with amazing glaciers and great places to hike, ski and climb. The adventure starts over our transport when we start getting deep and deep into the mountains. You will be able to see stuning views of Maipo River and hundred of gorgeaus peaks.

The hiking starts at Baños Morales Village, a lonely town with a few houses and sourranded by spectacular mounts. As we head into the valley we will be amazed by the views of the big rock walls and spring waters walking along the Morales creek.

We will arrive to the Morales Pond lookout where we´ll see the stunning snowy mountains and San Francisco Glacier.

On our return we will drive 30min to Banos de Colina Hotsprings, where we will set our camp and enjoy a healthy meal cooked by our own guides!

Day 2: Morado Lagoon & Glacier

After a nice breakfast and a last dive into the hotsprings, we will put down our camp and drive 20 min to the start of the trail.

Hiking begins between huge rock walls of Arenas Mount. We will follow the trail, along the river, and crossing several moraines.

At the top of the path you will reach the great lookout of Morado Lagoon and Glacier. Enjoy your snack watching icebergs and walls of ice.

You will be able to walk around the lagoon and see the ice wall over the water.

The journey begins by meeting at 7:30am at Universidad de Santiago metro station. Start the 270 km panoramic trip by bus from Santiago to Talca for a tour of a local restaurant for food (at own expense). Proceed 70km to the National Reserve Altos de Lircay (Vilches), situated in the mountainous sector of the VII (7th) region. Start the first leg of the hike to see the region's beautiful native forest, viewpoints, rivers and waterfalls. After the hike, head to the lodge for traditional Chilean barbecue and spend the night stargazing at the beautiful night sky.

Day 2: (B)
Starts with a sunrise wake-up call, and the next leg of the excursion. Hike towards the mountains through the National Reserve of Altos de Lircay, a nearly untouched reserve with dense vegetation, mountains, and small crossing rivers. Day 1:
Early in the morning our guide will pick you up at your hotel to then head east directly to the Andes to get to Yerba Loca Natural Sanctuary (by the same road that leads to the main ski resorts from Santiago city). On the parking area our horseman with his horses will be waiting to load the equipments and beginning our hike through this immense glacial valley that extends gaining altitude and encasing gradually to the north.

The trail section to our camp site has 6,5 miles (10,5km) and consist of five hours of hike. This regularly ascends with low steepness by the east bank of the Yerba Loca river, which delves slowly in the deep mountains where vegetation soon disappears, giving way to bare rock. On route, creeks appears on the right moments with pure water for good hydration.

As we enter, the valley narrows and towering stone walls begin to unfold. We will make our camp in a great spot near the river, at the foot of a singular waterfall that freezes in winter. Here we will enjoy the Andean night accompanied by a delicious dinner and a good conversation.

Day 2:

In the morning and after breakfast we will disarm camp and prepare the equipment for the  muleteer who will help us bringing back down our equipments to the entrance of the Sanctuary. On our backpacks we load the box lunch and some coat for that day and beginning the hike to La Paloma glacier. The first section consists of crossing the Yerba Loca estuary and start zigzagging to reach new vistas of the valley and the huge surrounding peaks.

We will cross a great plain well known as “Campos de Marte” (Mars fields), passing through “Piedra Carvajal”, an old stone refuge used by muleteers and possibly built by the Incas. After about two hours and having gaining more height, La Paloma Glacier begins to be appreciated. The Altar mount (5,180m – 16,984ft) and La Paloma mount (4,910m – 16,098ft) impose themselves full of expression.

We will have lunch at the foot of this glacier and recover energy while enjoying a unique landscape. By the afternoon we will begin the hike back to the vehicle to then get return to your hotel. It is estimated that the arrival at the hotel will be at 20:00 hrs.

This full day-excursion is a panoramic tour by private vehicle to enjoy the scenic beauty of Maipo Valley and El Yeso Reservoir.
Get picked up from your hotel and head towards the Andes and the Cajón del Maipo area, 31 miles (50 kilometers) from Santiago. The road skirts the Maipo River, which offers a great view over the foothills of the Andes. After one hour, the tour continues by ascending to the El Yeso area, situated 62 miles (100 kilometers) from Santiago and at an altitude of 8,200 feet (2,500 meters).

Upon arrival at the final destination, El Yeso Reservoir, get ready to walk a 1.9-mile (3 kilometer) trail along the reservoir. With luck, you can observe condors, eagles, and wild foxes.
